Winter Park, Colorado

A TOFC train with Rio Grande power on the point, rumbles past us at a grade crossing between Fraser and Tabernash. |
| The same TOFC train with the Winter Park ski resort in the background. |

This is a loaded Southern Pacific coal drag. These trains are so heavy that they require three sets of two locomotive. Two on the front, |
| two in the middle, and |

two pushing on the back. |
| A Southern Pacific coal train passing thought the town of Fraser, Colorado, also know as the Ice Box of the Nation. It was a cold morning outside when this picture was taken, look at the ice on the telephone wires. |

The Union Pacific E9's
In the midst of a snow storm an unexpected visitor emerged from the snowy landscape. It was Union Pacific's A-B-A set of E9s. This vintage set was built in the 1950's and is now based in Cheyenne, Wyoming. It is usually used to pull the UP executive train, but on this occasion it is being used to pull the UPS hotshot train.

The E9's, belching smoke as they struggle up the two percent grade to the Moffat Tunnel. |
| Excited by the opportunity to see the E9's in this raw setting I snapped several pictures as they pass. |
 |
 |
Even the dog is excited to see the train as it pass the signal box in Fraser, Colorado. |
| There were five other units assisting the UP E9s' over the pass. |
 |
 |
Through the snow storm you can get a good look a the rest of the locomotives as they highball it over the pass. |
